Hey Guys!
The new runway looks terrific! Thanks to those who helped with the construction! As Field Committee chairman I’d like to officially thank Chuck, Rick, John and Francisco for contributing extra time to prepare the site for the new runway. The task included leveling the runway and digging a new ditch with a skid loader. I’d like to thank John for helping to hand dig the ditch after the rain and grading the ditch with a laser. Francisco, Chuck and Rick leveled the runway with a sled and rolled it with a vibrating roller. Also, I’d like to thank the club members and the Lamar guys for helping to put the runway back together last Saturday. I wish I could name everyone, but I had to leave early that day for work. The runway and field look great, and I know everyone is looking forward to smooth landings!!
Last Wednesday I rented a skid loader to clear the dirt piled along the ditch and runway. This pile posed a threat to rogue-landing planes. While I had the loader I was able to dig a small ditch from the low spot north of the taxi-way to the ditch beside the bbq pit. I hope this ditch will keep the grassy area in front of the runway from holding water.
There’s one last bit of business- the clean-up. I’ve cut the old runway into manageable rolls. Please take a few minutes and swing by the field, grab a roll or two or three, and dispose of it in your home trash can. There are small rolls, as well as large, so please grab what you can manage. Be sure to bring gloves-the rolls are very dirty. At this moment there are 15 rolls that need to be disposed of. Also, there are cardboard rolls to be cut (nudge, nudge-wink, wink), and fence posts and debris alongside the building to be put away or disposed of. Please carry away any trash you can when you’re at the field. Let’s all contribute to keeping our field, and the site as a whole, clean and safe.
Thanks again to all who contributed to the beautiful new runway and the drainage system. We have a great club, and I know that we all appreciate the work everyone has done to clean up the site and make the field look better, and function better, than it has in a long time.
With much appreciation,
Brian Bertrand
